Further Information: e-Learning design and development activities are subject to formal quality assurance reviews at agreed stages and intervals.

A common criticism of e-Learning resources is that it is of poor quality and doesn’t result in the desired learning outcome. Those responsible for developing e-Learning resources should be given clear guidance on the structure and design of content. This may include directions on navigation, words per screen, question types, accessibility and use of graphics.

To secure the quality of e-Learning content across a large organisation there should be a formal quality assurance (QA) process in place. This can take a number of forms. It may be self-regulated, that is, locally managed or it may mean submitting work in progress to a central QA panel.

Another approach to developing e-Learning is one where subject experts provide information and assessment content against clear guidance. This is then passed on to professional and,or dedicated content developers who present the final learning package in standard learning content software.
