Further Information: Those involved in learning and development use a wide variety of media and tools to ensure that all learners achieve the results they want.
The growth in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and e-Learning has given trainers and those responsible for the delivery of learning and development the opportunity to make their training much more interactive and varied. Trainers can choose from a whole range of media and tools to make the learning experience more enjoyable, engaging, motivating and targeted.
When designing an event or programme the media and tools chosen must be fit for purpose. They need to be accessible for the full range of learners, not only technically accessible but appropriate for different levels of learners and their various needs.
Examples of the types of tools and media can include:
- webpages and websites
- e-journals, web journals or online journals
- blogs interactive activities, quizzes, games, assessments, animations, demos, and other multimedia
- m-learning – e-Learning delivered through portable communication systems such as mobile phones, lap top or computer
- text messaging, audio or video conferencing
- podcasts
- wordprocessing, slide presentations and spreadsheets.
The trainer must have a good working knowledge of the tools being used and be familiar with the media. Thet need to ensure that they have researched their materials and how to use them effectively, building up confidence in their use.
Access to resources are found for free on many internet sites. One place of many is the Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies web site from which you can access a variety of free tools and resources.
