Further Information: There is a common Learning Management System that all those involved in learning and development can access.

There is a National Learning Management System (NLMS) that can be accessed by all staff with an Electronic Service Record (ESR). Some organisations provide a local learning management system (LMS).

All learners will need a username and password to get access to an LMS.

  • Does your organisation make sure that all learners have a username and password?
  • Are all staff told how to access the NLMS if they have an ESR?
  • Are all staff told how to access the local LMS if provided?

One advantage of an LMS is that can track usage and performance. Trainers or managers responsible for learning and development will need to be able to access the LMS. They will need to be given permission to be able to look at groups of learners, allocate them permissions or create reports.

  • If your organisation has contracted staff without an ESR, are they able to get access to an LMS?

Access is usually via a browser so users need a computer or other device to access an LMS.

  • Does your organisation have enough computers for people to use for e-Learning?
  • Can devices such as wireless computers of phones be used to access an LMS?
