Further Information: Links between e-Learning and all employees' readiness to change are measured.

e-Learning – are staff ready?

e-Learning has the capacity to transform the way an organisation learns.  For many it is a new way of learning.  Are staff ready to adopt e-Learning?  Are they ready for change in the workplace?  e-Learning creates its own changes.

Trainers, staff and managers need to accept:

  • moving away from traditional classroom method of delivery
  • experiencing a variety of delivery methods as part of blended learning
  • changing from learner,tutor to learner,facilitator role
  • responsibility and ownership for the learning shifting towards the learner
  • where the learning takes place – no longer limited to central locations but taken out to the learner or accessed from the learner’s workplace or their own home.
  • time – making some learning activities bitesize and manageable, more able to fit in with the work schedule

Measuring readiness to change

The relationship between e-Learning and readiness to change can be measured by providing:

  • readiness for Change questionnaires - an example of which can be found in the Resources Section of the Tool
  • taster e-Learning events with detailed pre and post evaluations exploring experiences of learners
  • adaptations of existing survey methods – adding local questions to the National Staff Survey held each year

By measuring readiness to change this informs those leading the introduction of e-Learning what type of support is going to be required and where this will need to be directed.
