Further Information: There is a method for evaluating the quality of e-Learning content and training materials.
What method of evaluation?
When establishing a method of evaluating e-Learning it would be realistic to adopt the approach suggested in the National Training Evaluation Process.
The National Training Evaluation Process includes an evaluation framework. This utilises the principles of Kirkpatrick’s multiple levels of evaluation. It also provides an example of questionnaire templates and includes use of the National Learning Management System [NLMS].
The national process focuses on Levels 1, 2 and 3. It suggests that Level 4, the impact on the organisation and Level 5, the return on investment should be implemented once evaluation is established in the organisation.
There will be a period of delay before elearning becomes appropriately embedded into the organisation. It will therefore be necessary to allow time before impact and return on investment can be evaluated. This time will provide you with the opportunity to establish a method of evaluation.
What makes a good evaluation?
How do you currently prove that e-Learning or blended learning has been effective and met the needs of both the learners and the organisation?
How do you gain management support and funding for future e-Learning developments?
By providing evidence of the effectiveness of programmes of e-Learning or blended learning you will be in a stronger position to gain supporting and funding for future programmes. No organisation can continue to support e-Learning or any other form of learning without evidence of impact on the learners and the organisation.
