Further Information: There are clear criteria for procuring the services of e-Learning development companies.

Where to start.

If you have a responsibility for commissioning and buying e-Learning content from development companies for training then you should look at this statement.

It is really important that your organisation creates a set of quality criteria for the commissioning and buying of e-Learning which is fair and which you circulate to development companies. These criteria, once met, should enable you to procure the services of development companies who have a sound track record of e-Learning development. They should also ensure that development companies create the e-Learning materials that match exactly what you need.

After reading your and matching your criteria, development companies should know and understand exactly what you expect in the production of new learning materials.

One way of starting the process of finding good e-Learning developers could be to invite developers to send in materials they have already developed. You could judge these against your criteria and create an approved supplier list which you use for all commissioning. Before doing this you would need to check with your purchasing and supplies department and your finance department about the best way to proceed.

So you need to ask:

  • Do you have an approved list of development companies who understand your training needs? If not, how are you going to create one?
  • Are they experienced e-Learning developers?
  • Do you have a process for the ongoing monitoring of suitable development companies?
  • Do you have a set of e-Learning criteria which you send out to development companies with your terms of reference for tenders?
