Further Information: Learning content is designed using defined and agreed standards.

When e-Learning resources are created, it is important that they work on the systems that people in your organisation use and they do what is needed.

You may have some requirements to do with the quality of learning and the look and feel. A minimum level of accessibility of e-Learning content is also required.

Your organisation may have standards and guidelines available to help provide some consistency to e-Learning content. You may also have access to tools that make it easier to create e-Learning that meets the standards needed.

Standards should not stop e-Learning being fun nor add to the cost of development. They should help your organisation meet its e-Learning needs.

The people who are likely to be creating e-Learning content should know where to find the information they need about standards. Some of these may be available nationally and some may be unique to your organisation.

Some things to consider doing:

  • make national or local standards guidance readily available
  • build standards into contracts and tender processes
  • meet with creators of e-Learning to discuss how to apply standards
  • provide templates and tools to make it easier to create content that meets standards

For more information about standards go to the Toolkit web page on standards.
