Further Information: Learners have access to high quality learning materials that are designed against agreed standards.

For e-Learning to be effective it must include high quality content that delivers relevant information to support specific learning objectives. If it is stand alone content then it must also be checked for learning, and in some cases generate evidence of learning.

The only way to quality assure learning content is to establish quality standards against which it is created and purchased.  Such standards may define:

  • the number of words on screen
  • the style for example font type and size, number of graphics per page
  • minimum level of interactivity
  • the use of learning objectives to define content.

There should be a process in place to quality assure content.

The NHS has produced guidelines to inform the development of e-Learning content.

There is also an example of a Question and Answer approach to evaluating learning resources. Try it out with an e-Learning resource that you use.

What criteria would you use?

Would you add to the list of questions or change any?

There is a list of some of the accredited e-Learning resources that are available free to all NHS Trusts in England.
