Further Information: The e-Learning infrastructure is reliable, robust and sufficient.

It has to work

There are lots of things that need to work to enable e-Learning to be useful. They have to enable all users to access them when they need to. The infrastructure needed for e-Learning includes the wires and computers that enable connections to the internet or a local network.

Your organisation should ensure that the e-Learning systems work well under all conditions and that any failures are dealt with quickly. Things should work even if there are lots of people online at the same time.

National Provision

As well as access to the wider internet, the NHS has its own private network. N3 is the national broadband network for the NHS, linking every hospital and GP surgery in England.

N3 has strict safeguards in place to protect security and to ensure that the network is only available to those who are authorised to use it. N3's Community of Interest Networks (COINs) interconnect local healthcare facilities.

There is a National Learning Management System[NLMS] available to nearly all NHS staff with an Electronic Staff Record.
