Further Information: Technical standards and guidelines are documented for use when creating e-Learning.
Standards
There are a wide range of standards and guidelines available. When e-Learning resources are made it is important that they work on the systems that people in your organisation use.
Following agreed standards can help improve the chances that resources and computer systems work together.
Your organisation may have a learning platform or you may wish to put e-Learning resources you create into the National Learning Management System. You may also have access to tools that make is easier to create e-Learning that meets the standards needed.
The people who are likely to be creating e-Learning resources should know where to find the information they need about standards. Some of these may be available nationally and some may be unique to your organisation.
There is a risk that resources will be wasted if e-Learning resources are made that cannot be widely used.
Some things to consider doing:
- make national or local guidance readily available
- meet with creators of e-Learning to discuss how to use standards
- provide an online discussion group for people to share ideas and problems
- link to templates and tools to make it easier to create resources that meets standards
Look at the section on standards in the Toolkit.
