Further Information: There is a clear and identifiable vision for e-Learning and its role in the organisation.
Building a clear vision
It is essential for any change programme to be supported by a clear, compelling and achievable vision. This will come from the top of the organisation at the most senior level. The vision will steer the organisation towards a goal that is recognised by all as the best way forward. It is essential for good leaders to be able to build a vision of the way change will affect the organisation. An example of a vision for change is presented in Elearning and NHS Connecting for Health: An Overview, written by Philip Candy, then National Director Education, Training and Development – NHS Connecting for Health. In this document Philip outlines the central importance of e-Learning to the NHS and how it supports the strategic workforce development programme.
Change programmes need drivers, people who can see the benefits of the change, in this case e-Learning. e-Learning may be considered to be a big idea but it must be relevant to the workplace. For a vision to be effective, employees must be able to recognise the values and rationale underpinning it. e-Learning will have supporters but they must be able to explain to colleagues what the benefits of e-Learning will be to them, the patient, colleagues and the organisation as a whole. Benefits can take a number of forms; emotional, practical, financial.

Never underestimate the time and support that individuals may need to change work patterns and processes. Remember it is always more comfortable implementing change than have change imposed upon you.
