The role of stakeholders
It is not uncommon for new initiatives to go forward then be completely derailed by poor communications with stakeholders. It is important to identify all the stakeholders that have an interest in the new initiative.
There is a useful slide presentation, Stakeholder Engagement, that explains the value of working with stakeholders and, using case studies from the ISIP Local Health Communities Demonstrator Programme, it shows how consulting, listening and involving stakeholders has been key to the delivery of successful service transformation.
It is important to identify all the stakeholders that have an interest in the new initiative. Their support will be essential in informing and realising the initiative. Consider the checklist below and think about the stakeholders you could identify.
