Further Information: Those involved in developing and delivering e-Learning are aware of the range of learning content that is available nationally and locally.

One of the biggest barriers to the take up of e-Learning by trainers is the identification of quality learning content. It is not uncommon to hear stories about the duplication of resources within a single organisation. This may be through the development of new content or the multiple purchase of similar or the same resource. There are many reasons why this might happen; lack of a common library of resources that is accessible to all, lack of faith in the quality of resources available, belief that resources can only be good if they are locally created, etc.

The benefits of a standardised repository are:

  • the establishment of common quality standards
  • access to a wide range of resources
  • improved understanding of copyright and license laws
  • reduced costs in duplication and the development of poor content.
