Further Information: The roles of participants and e-Learning leaders are clear with targets and processes in place.

What makes a good leader?

Leadership is about behaviour first, skills second. The personal qualities of leaders are:

  • self-belief
  • self-awareness
  • self-management
  • drive for improvement
  • personal integrity

Leaders have vision, behaviour and confidence which are key attributes to introduce any new initiative such as e-Learning. You and the other leaders need:

  • confidence and belief in the initiative
  • a clear and identifiable vision for e-Learning
  • to lead by example

You will need to use all of these skills to build a team of experts who can help you with implementation. Each of these participants will need to have a clear understanding of the role that they need to play. As a leader you will require communication and team building skills to reinforce their roles and to ensure that they work together. Your role will be to ensure that all of the teaching and learning, technical and creative aspects are successfully covered.

  • Have leaders been identified throughout the organisation to implement e-Learning and take the initiative forward?
  • Has sponsorship/support for e-Learning in the organisation been clearly conveyed in words and actions?
  • Have experts been identified to help with the implementation of e-Learning?

What targets and processes?

The targets and processes need to be identified and established during the planning stages for the implementation of e-Learning.

The processes that are required for the successful implementation of e-Learning are many and varied. Below are a few of the areas that you will need to develop processes for:

  • communication
  • technical developments
  • design
  • risks
  • marketing
  • evaluation.

An action plan with target dates for completion, actual dates of completion, progress, dependencies and risks will need to be drawn up.
