Further Information: The organisation has a process in place for reviewing its history of change initiatives and applying lessons learned.
What to review?
The outcomes from evaluating e-Learning need to be reviewed and considered in relation to aspects that need to be changed. This will identify any improvements that can be made to the content, the activities or other aspects of the e-Learning.
To be able to review the history of change initiatives you will need a change management plan for e-Learning. This should have been developed during the planning stages for the implementation of e-Learning. You may ask yourself, why should you spend time developing an overall change management plan? A plan will help you to:
- identify and allocate resources for important tasks
- allow for collaborative thought and working on critical issues for implementation
- uncover potential blockages
- define the key steps required to ensure organisational acceptance.
In addition the plan guarantees that logistical tasks, like communication and dissemination are completed.

How to apply lessons learned?
When implementing e-Learning the lessons learned will be invaluable. e-Learning will be so new to the organisation that any previous information on which to base your planning will not be available. It will only be as the implementation progresses that you will be able to identify lessons learned. This information needs to be recorded and reviewed.
Lessons learned can be both good and bad. They can highlight things that went well and others that did not go as well as expected. Both good and bad can provide useful information for future planning. They provide the opportunity to identify different ways of working which will lead to different results.
There is no point in identifying the lessons learned unless you use the information in a meaningful way. You need to analysis the information and decide on the appropriate course of action to be taken. Ideally the e-Learning network for the organisation will be involved in the discussions and identifying a way forward.
