Further Information: Rewards for e-Learning adopters are identified.
What are rewards?
The rewards for e-Learner adopters that need to be identified are detailed in supporting best practice in e-Learning across the NHS – A strategic approach by the NHS National Workforce Group 2005. The following extract gives examples of the relevant benefits. e-Learning offers practical benefits for individuals and a whole range of health organisations:
- for individuals – personalising learning for progress in jobs and careers
- for employers – engaging staff and promoting new ways of working
- for managers – helping to achieve business and performance targets
- for health professionals – collaboration and communication to share knowledge
- for educators – to enable them to support learning in the workplace
- for providers – widening participation in learning, at work, in the community, at home
- for organisations – promoting knowledge management and workforce development
- for communities – to enable sharing and innovation in work, learning and practice
- for all staff – inter-linking the use of technologies for learning and for work.
e-Learning will also have a significant benefit for patients and carers where the use of learning technologies will contribute to patient empowerment, enable self management of chronic and short term conditions and promote communities of support for carers.
How can you identify these rewards?
In order to identify the rewards for e-Learning adopters, you will need to identify the individuals, their role and what their need is?
What is meant by the term need?
There are many definitions for the word need. For these purposes what you should be thinking about is necessity arising from the circumstances of a situation’. Now relate this to your workplace.
What changes are currently being made that might result in a new way of working?
- Are new computer systems or medical equipment being installed?
- Are there new staff being employed?
- Is a new skill needed?
- Can e-Learning provide the learning solution?
You have identified the need so what is the next step?
You will now need to identify features of e-Learning that address that need. A feature is an aspect that can be matched to the need. An example of a feature of an e-Learning package could be, an interactive hazard identification activity. This might match the need to make staff more aware of the risks of safety hazards in the workplace.
The benefits will then be used to answer the"What’s in it for me?" question.
